The Suffering We Face                              -                           A reánk váró szenvedés

I have a terrible baptism of suffering ahead of me, and I am under a heavy burden until it is accomplished. – Luke 12:50

These words of Jesus Christ were spoken right before he announced that he comes not to bring peace to the world, but to divide families, neighbors and communities. Sometimes it is hard to comprehend the meaning of these words, especially when Jesus constantly asked his followers to love each other, be kind to everyone, even to their enemies. So, then, whom are being divided due to Jesus’ accomplishment?

The simple answer is, we all are the divided people. Those who faithfully follow the Son of God and those who deny him. Those who live for the Spirit and those who live for the flesh. Those who live for eternity and those who live for today. Those who take their suffering as their baptism and those who reject to endure and learn from their torments and hardships. Those who share their gifts and those who consume their gifts alone and demand more.

For instance, there are people, time to time again, who turn to the church, therefore to God for help in their need, but after the church or God help them, they disappear. They learn nothing from their suffering, they don’t change and come back for more. How do you follow Christ in a situation like this? Do you give more or give and expect the person to change by learning to become someone that eventually will stand strong and perhaps turn to be a blessing for others?   

I think the example of Jesus Christ’s own suffering can divide us, yet it portrays that it is important that we all share each other’s pain, we help those in need, but learn to be responsible in order to gain strength, to overcome and defeat suffering.

Prayer

Gracious God, let me be your child that suffers to endure and to learn to build your kingdom. Amen.

Szenvedéssel kell azonban még megkereszteltetnem, és mennyire szorongok, míg ez végbe nem megy. - Lukács 12:50

Jézus Krisztus a szenvedéséről szólt, mielőtt azt mondta, hogy nem azért jött, hogy békét hozzon a világra, hanem, hogy ellentétet családok, szomszédok és az eddig békében élők között. Nehéz ezeket a gondolatokat az embernek felfogni, hiszen Jézus Krisztus áldozata arra buzdítja a követőit, hogy szeressék egymást, mutassanak gyengédséget és alázatosságot még az ellenségeik felé is. Ennek tudatában, kikre gondolt az Istennek fia, amikor kijelentette, hogy ellentétet hoz földi küldetésével?

A válasz egyszerű, ránk gondolt, emberekre, akik nehezen értik meg egymást. Azokra, akik őszintén, lelki életet élnek és követik Istent, de azokra is, akik elfordulnak az Úrtól és a vágyaiknak élnek. Azokra, akik az örök élet reményéért élnek, és azokra, akik csak a jelent tartják fontosnak. Azokra, akik felveszik a Jézust keresztjét és azokra, akik azt eldobják maguktól.

A hívő ember számára is vannak  kihívások. Például, amikor újra és újra találkozunk olyan emberekkel, akik Istenhez fordulnak, amikor bajban vannak. Segítséget kérnek és kapnak az egyháztól, de semmit nem tanulnak megpróbáltatásaikból, mert a segítségnyújtás után eltűnnek, majd újra megjelennek, amikor újra ugyanabba a bajba kerülnek, mint a múltban. Mit tegyünk, csak adjunk, vagy tanítsunk és hosszú távon segítsünk azzal, hogy számon kérünk?

Jézus Krisztus forradalmi személyisége szeretetet, testvériséget ígér, de ez sokszor nehéz munkával, kihívásokkal jár, ami az ellentéteket is magában foglalja. Sokszor nem az a segítség, hogy mindent megadunk annak, aki kér, hanem, hogy felelősségtudatra, feladat vállalásra bíztatjuk azt, aki bajban van.

Imádság

Szerető Urunk, Istenünk, kereszthalálod elfogadjuk nem csak mint mentőövet, hanem mint leckét, feladatot földi életünk során, aminek megoldásához erőért és alázatért esedezünk. Ámen.

Blind Trust in God                                       -                                Vakon hinni Istenben

 For they all saw him, and were troubled. - Mark 6:50

In the Gospel of Mark, we read that Jesus’ disciples went out to Sea of Galilee on a boat, while Jesus Christ stayed on the shore to pray. Suddenly a violent storm irrupted. The disciples panicked and started rowing with full strength in the middle of the lake, struggling with the tall waves. Jesus saw them and came to their aid by walking on the blustery water. The disciples became frightened as Jesus appeared to them, thinking they are seeing a ghost. But Jesus calmed them down, reminding them to have faith at all times.

At another time, in the Gospel of John, the disciples were meeting in a room behind a locked door, when miraculously the risen Jesus stood among them. They were stunned, but overjoyed in the presence of the Lord. Thomas refused to believe them unless he could see the wounds of Jesus. The good news for us from these stories to have faith in God without looking for the physical signs as proof of his presence among us.

I remember when I was a child my father surprised me once showing up with his identical twin brother at a family gathering. My uncle for a few minutes played around by pretending to be my father to trick me.  I felt something was not right, but I was confused and scared until they explained to me that he is not my father, but only someone who looks like him. It took some time until, I believed that my uncle is truly not my father acting weird, and to know that what I saw was not what it appeared to be.

In life there are many things that we rely on because we are convinced that our sight cannot deceive us. The truth is the world is full of deceptions, lies and images of fake solutions to the problems that we are troubled with. There are pretty things to our eyes that make us believe it is the source of our true happiness. There is science, technology and false teachings to find the meaning of life. However, if you are a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, you must be prepared to not live your life trusting your eyes, but by believing and serving the One that is invisible to the eye.  He is the only source of everlasting life. Only in Jesus Christ one can find meaning of being free, alive and content. Trust God, repent and walk on the path that Christ prepared for you.

Prayer

Dear God, give me the peace of Jesus, so I can feel your presence in my life without opening my eyes to look for you. Amen.

Mindnyájan látták ugyanis, és megrettentek.  –  Márk 6:50

Márk evangéliumában azt olvassuk, hogy a tanítványok Jézus kérésére bárkába szállnak és kieveznek a tengerre, miközben Jézus a parton marad imádkozni. Amikor a tanítványok már messze vannak a parttól, hatalmas vihar támad. Nagy erőbedobással eveznek a part irányába, de az óriás  hullámokkal nem bírnak. Jézus ekkor a segítségükre siet. A vízen járva közeledik feléjük. Amikor  a tanítványok meglátják, megréműlnek, mert azt hiszik, hogy egy kísértetet látnak. Jézus Krisztus azonban nyugalomra inti őket és azt kéri, hogy ne veszítsék el a hitüket.

Egy másik alkalommal, János evangéliumában a tanítványok egy kulcsra zárt szobában találkoznak, amikor csodával határos módon, a feltámadt Jézus ott terem közöttük. A tanítványok döbbenten, de örömmel fogadják az Urat. Tamás, aki később tudja meg, hogy mi történt nem akarja elhinni az egészet addig, amíg nem láthatja a saját szemeivel a megfeszített Jézus sebeinek helyét.

A két történetből az üzenet számunkra az, hogy legyen hitünk Istenben még akkor is, ha szemmel nem látható, kézzel nem fogható az élő Isten közöttünk.

Amikor kisfiú voltam, az apám meglepett egyszer úgy, hogy egy családi összejövetelre az ikertestvérével érkezett. A nagybátyám ekkor viccesen az apukámnak adta ki magát azért, hogy engem megtévesszen.  Éreztem, hogy valami nincs rendben, pánik tört ki rajtam, megzavarodtam és megijedtem, mert nem tudtam, hogy mi történik. Talán egy órába telt, amíg megnyugtattak és megértettem, hogy akit láttam, amit láttam csak egy szemtévesztés volt.

Az életben sokszor csak abban bízunk, amit a szemünkkel látunk. Azt hisszük, hogy amit látunk az valós. Az életünk tele van megtévesztő, látszólagos dolgokkal, amikkel elhitetik velünk, hogy igazak és értékesek. A szemünknek kedveskednek, a csábító boldogság képeivel hitegetnek, de ugyanakkor megvakítják a lelkiség szemeit. Amikor Jézus Krisztus követői leszünk, tudnunk kell, hogy nem élhetünk csak a szemmel látható dolgok rabjaként, hanem követnünk kell a hit által azt, aki a szemmel nem látható, de az életünk Ura, megváltója. Térj meg, kövesd a Krisztust, aki hív. Fogadd el azt, amit az Isten kínál számodra, de ami  csak a lelkiség által érzékelhető.

Imádság

Drága Istenem, áldj meg engem a Krisztus békességével, hogy érezzem közelséged még csukott szemmel is. Ámen.

Humility and Faith                                      -                                     Hit és alázatosság

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. – Luke 14:11

You have heard from our pulpit in the last two weeks that there is a generational divide in our churches, which we did not take seriously for decades. People have different take on what the Bible is, therefore, who God is. Often, this creates problems in the church between people and this is that we refer to as church politics. It is about power, when clergy or lay people carry a desire to promote their own will and not God’s will to love and to serve the people of the church. To reduce such sinful act among us, we should listen to Christ and remain always humble and take a position that reflects on our gentleness and on our faith in Jesus, rather on our notability.

Some people try to put on an act of humility in order to manipulate folks both in the church and in life in general. Other occasions, some people feel they have to lose their own integrity to fulfill the need of humbleness and become the victims of the manipulators and chose not standing up for their faith. None of the above you should do. The only righteous way to show and find the meaning of humbleness comes to us by following the Son of God, Jesus Christ.  You can do that by study the word of God, and confess your sins to God. Humility is not self-degradation; it is realistic self-assessment and commitment to serve God and his people.

When you turn to God and ask him to show you the way to humbleness it cannot be done for the duration of getting a position or a title, but for a long haul of struggle with your flesh that dictates to you to have pride and power over others.  Be prepared to receive humbleness from God’s grace, as the ingredient to your full conversion to be a Christ like servant. Examine the life of the apostle Paul, who became a convert by throwing away everything that he served with pride before he became a humble servant of Christ for life. Humble yourself today, so later you can be exalted.

Prayer

Precious Lord, teach me to love you more than myself, so I can become your loyal, selfless servant in the church. Amen.

Mert aki felmagasztalja magát, megaláztatik, aki pedig megalázza magát, felmagasztaltatik.  -  Lukács 14:11

Az elmúlt két hétben azt hallottátok a szószékről, hogy évtizedek óta egyre nagyobb a generációs ellentét templomainkban a hívek között. Ennek az a leglényegesebb oka, hogy az idősebb és a fiatalabb generációnak más a Bibliáról alkotott véleménye, ismerete. Ennek eredményeként különböző formában viszonyulnak az Istenhez. Ezért tapasztaljuk meg azt is, hogy az egyház berkein belül az emberek veszekednek, amit sokan csak  egyházpolitikának neveznek,  és amire azt is mondják, hogy annál rosszabb szinte nincs is. Sajnos, ezek az ellentétek a hatalomról szólnak. Néha egyházi vezetők, de sokszor maguk a hívők érzik úgy, hogy a templomi közösség az róluk és az ő kiváltságukról szól, nem pedig Isten és az egyház szolgálatáról.  Hogy ezek a bűnös cselekedetek eltűnjenek a templomi közösségből, figyelnünk kell Jézus szavára, aki arra utasít bennünket, hogy maradjunk mindig alázatosak.

Vannak olyanok, akik az alázatosság ruháját magukra húzzák azért, hogy másokat manipuláljanak az egyházon belül és a civil életben. De vannak olyanok is, akik úgy érzik, hogy az a helyes út, ha semmibe sem szólnak bele, és mindenkinek mindent elnéznek, szemet hunynak a dolgok felett és engedik, hogy a manipulálók áldozatává váljanak. E két példa közül ne válaszd egyiket sem. Az egyedüli helyes út a szerénység gyakorlása, a Jézus Krisztus követésével. Ezt úgy sajátíthatod el, ha hű maradsz a Szentíráshoz, azt tanulmányozod és bűneidet Isten elé viszed imádságban. Az alázatosság nem a saját hangunk elnémítását jelenti, hanem az Isten akaratának érvényesítését a Jézus Krisztus egyházának szolgálatában.

Imádkozz Istenhez, hogy segítsen alázatosnak lenni, de ne csak addig kérd, amíg egy gyűlésen részt veszel, vagy esetleg amíg egy titulushoz jutsz, hanem akkor is, amikor küzdesz önmagaddal, amikor  a büszkeséged vagy önös céljaid a krisztusi hit ellen szólalnak meg benned.

Drága Mennyei Isten, taníts engem Téged jobban szeretni mint önmagamat, hogy hű szolgád lehessek a gyülekezetet szolgálók közösségében. Ámen.

Spirituality and Faith                                          -                                    Lelkiség és hit

And Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. – Matthew 22:37-38

All humans are made in the image of God. Regardless if people accept this  as  fact or not. We are similar to God, but not perfect as God. Scripture teaches us that God is Spirit and so are we. We are all spiritual beings. We long to feed our spiritual body, even though sometimes people deny it and reject God. The good news is, God still forgives and loves all of us. Every terrible deed, disgusting lie or selfish desire can be forgiven because of God’s love for us by simply turning towards Christ and accept him, as our savior.

Important to keep in mind, that there is a difference between being spiritual and being a believer of Jesus Christ and have faith in God. For instance, so many people turn to find their spiritual self in new age stuff, self- coaching, spiritual healers, energy healers, self-motivators, prosperity gospel preachers, which encourages you to promote only one thing, your own power through your self-centeredness.
 
However, when you have an active faith in God through Jesus Christ, your primary focus is to advocate God, who provides you with all that you need not only in the moment, but tomorrow, next year and after this earthly journey ends.
In short, don’t buy into fake prophets’ false teachings of who you are as a spiritual being, but look for God who is all around you. Love and surrender to God, yearn for God’s Spirit, study God’s Holy Son, talk to God and serve God with all that you got and you shall be blessed with the peace of the almighty God.

Prayer

Precious Lord, I confess to you my weakness to be a good listener and keeper of your Word. Fill me up with your Spirit, so I can change and follow you with my heart and with my soul. Amen.

Jézus így válaszolt: „Szeresd az Urat, a te Istenedet teljes szívedből, teljes lelkedből és teljes elmédből. 38Ez az első és a nagy parancsolat. - Máté 22:37-38

Bibliánkból tudjuk, hogy Isten az embert saját maga képmására teremtette meg, függetlenül attól, hogy az ember ezt elfogadja vagy nem.  ĺgy elmondhatjuk azt, hogy Istenre hasonlítunk, de tökéletesek, mint Ő, nem lehetünk. A biblia azt is elárulja számunkra, hogy Isten egy lélek, egy szellem és mi is azok vagyunk. Van testünk, és van lelkünk, amit ápolnunk kell, különben a testünk sem lesz egészséges. Az ember sokszor a lelki énjét  elhanyagolja és Istent megtagadja. A jó hír számunkra az, hogy Isten mindent megbocsájt, hiszen szeret bennünket. Nincs olyan aljas cselekedet, olyan undorító hazugság vagy önző vágyakozás, amit az Isten ne bocsátana meg. Ehhez nincs másra szükségünk, mint Jézus Krisztushoz fordulni, szeretni őt.

Manapság sokan keresnek lelki táplálékot spirituális, modern, illetve keleti bölcsességeken alapuló tanokból, gyakorlatokból. Vannak siker és önfejlesztő tanácsadók, metafizikából lelkiséget ígérők, jósok és gyógyítók de vannak még  jólétet hírdető prédikátorok is. Tudni kell, hogy az ilyen típusú szellemi és lélekgondozó tanítások az ember egoizmusát próbálják csiszolni és elhitetni az egyénnel, hogy hatalommal rendelkezik élete és környezete felett.

Ezzel ellentétben a keresztyén lelkiség egy aktív szellemi élet, aminek a középpontjában az egyedüli hatalom az Isten, akivel a Jézus Krisztus kegyelméből lélekben eggyek lehetünk. Általa, minden amire szükségünk van most és a jövőben is megadatik.
Ezért ne hódolj be hamis prófétáknak, akik lelkiséget kínálnak neked és erőt, hanem találd meg Istent a hit által, aki a valódi erő és hatalom forrása. Add át életedet Istennek, szeresd a Krisztust, szolgáld az Istent  és szívd magadba Isten lelkét, ami által életed áldott, lelkiekben gazdag lehet.

Drága Isten, megvallom bűneimet előtted.Kérlek adj erőt, hogy Igédnek jobb hallgatója és cselekvője lehessek. Tölts fel engem Szentlélekkel, hogy soha le ne térjek az útról, ami hozzád vezet. Ámen.

Your Treasure                                               -                                                  A kincsed

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – Matthew 6:21

I remember, when I was a child there were kids (perhaps myself too) who could get into some pushing and shoving for a toy on the playground, or were annoyed until it was their turn to be served with ice-cream or cake among their mates. After some time and effort of their parents and teachers, they learned to enjoy more of the sharing of the toys and dessert, than to have everything for themselves.

Jesus taught his followers to be careful what they hold unto as their treasure, what they value in life the most, because that’s what they might end up serving throughout their lives. That thing, that earthly treasure, the impudence will make them slaves to evil, which works against God.

There is a lesson for us in Christ’s teaching today in the 21st century. Have self-control, do an inventory time to time to get rid of everything that that stands between you and God. Clean out your closet, give someone the things you found enjoyable some time ago, but you find no pleasure having it anymore. Pass on the things you just own, but don’t value. They might make someone feel happy and cared for. Get rid of your old attitude, which caused you trouble in the past, like stubbornness, pride, impatience or envy, so everyone can enjoy the kinder, gentler person God made you to be.

After you tried this improvement, ask God to own you heart and the Lord will reward you with the greatest treasure one could have, the passage to God’s eternal kingdom. Don’t waste time anymore, but find Christ. Think of your faith as your most valuable possession and your entire life will change to be a blessing.

Prayer

Holy God, I thank you for the many gifts in my life, but most of all your love for us, which ensures our safety and deliverance from our sins. Amen.

Mert ahol a kincsed van, ott lesz a szíved is. –  Máté 6:21

Emlékszem, hogy amikor gyermek voltam, voltak olyan gyerekek (talán magam is), akik néha lökdösődésbe, veszekedésbe kerültek egy játékért a többiekkel a játszótéren. Máskor duzzogva vették tudomásul, hogy sorba kell állni a fagyiért a cukrászdában, vagy, hogy osztoszkodni kell a szülinapi tortából másokkal. A gyerekeknél néha sokáig eltart az, amíg a szülők és a tanárok munkája beérik és a gyermek örömmel nyugtázza, hogy a játékot és a süteményt jobb egymással megosztani, mint önzően kisajátítani.

Jézus Krisztus arra tanította az őt követőket, hogy legyenek körültekintőek és bölcsen válasszák meg, hogy mit tartanak értékesnek az életben, hiszen könnyen a rabjává válhatnak kincseiknek. Amikor ez bekövetkezik, a gonosz erők az embert a romlásba taszíthatják.

A krisztusi bölcsességből van mit tanulnia a modern embernek is. Gyakoroljunk önfegyelmet. Legyünk képesek időnként leltárt készíteni lelki és tárgyi értékeinkről, és ami hasztalanná vált számunkra ne őrizgessük, mint egy ereklyét, vagy bálványt. Ürítsük ki néha a szekrényt, adjuk oda másoknak azokat a tárgyainkat, amelyek számunkra nem nyújtanak többé örömöt, de másnak boldogságot hozhatnak. Szabaduljunk meg berögzött tulajdonságainktól, (irigység, türelmetlenség, makacsság) amelyek eltaszítanak bennünket felebarátainktól. Ha ezt tesszük önzetlenekké válunk és másokat megsegítve Istent szolgálhatjuk. Tekintsünk Istenre,kérjük, hogy legyen a szívünk egyetlen ura és engedjük, hogy cserébe a legdrágább kincscsel jutalmazzon meg bennünket, az üdvösséggel a Jészus Krisztusban. Keresd az Urat, hogy Ő legyen a te kincsed, ahová a szíved vezet.

Szent Isten, köszönöm a számtalan ajándékot életemben, ami Tőled van, de főleg a legértékesebbet, ami a szereteted, ami által megtisztulást nyerek a bűneimtől. Ámen.

Enduring Our Brokenness                           -                                 Elviselt sérelmeink

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. -James 4:7-8a

During our bible studies a question emerged recently with regards to the divided state of the church. Some churches and denominations believe in something on a certain issue, while other churches contradict that belief. Where does God stand, how should an average person navigate in such a climate to consider remaining in the church at all?

The letter of James was written to the first century Jewish Christians, who lived among Gentiles with daily cultural and ideological issues and conflicts. James’ purpose with his letter was to guide them through their difficulties, to keep them on course, in order to remain faithful to God, make decisions to please God and not disappoint or turn away from God, even during persecution.

James’ wisdom can be applied to us also, thousands of years after James’s letter was addressed to one of the first Christian communities. How so? By encouraging us to study God, by searching for God’s purpose in life, by looking at our place in the world putting in the center of our attention God’s law and not our own desires. When we do that, we shall discover God, who is the church in Jesus Christ. The Son of God who suffered for us and died for us on the cross before he received his glory from the Father. Therefore, we must suffer, the church must suffer before our brokenness can be healed, before we can be lifted to the glory of the living God.

Prayer
Heavenly God, bless us all with patience that help us endure our suffering and illuminates the path to your kingdom. Amen.

Engedelmeskedjetek azért az Istennek, de álljatok ellen az ördögnek, és elfut tőletek. Közeledjetek az Istenhez, és ő közeledni fog hozzátok. - Jakab 4:7-8a

Bibliaóráink alkalmával egy kérdés hangzott el mostanában az egyházon belüli széthúzásról és az ellentétekről. Köztudott, hogy vannak felekezetek, és felekezeteken belül is olyan témák, amelyek megosztják a hívőket. Isten melyik oldalon áll és egy hétköznapi személy honnan tudja, hogy melyik gyülekezet hitvallása igaz és egyáltalán járjon templomba, ahol a szeretet helyett ellenségeskedést lát?

Jakab levele a Jézus születése utáni első évszázadban íródott zsidó keresztyének számára, akik pogányok között éltek különböző filozófiai és kultúrális ellentéteknek kiszolgáltatva. Jakab szándéka az volt, hogy ezeket a Jézust követő embereket átsegítse nehézségeiken, hogy jó úton maradjanak és kövessék a Jézus Krisztus tanításait. Hogy olyan döntésket hozzanak, amelyek Isten törvényét tiszteletben tartják, még akkor is, amikor üldözöttekké válnak.

Jakab bölcsessége több ezer év után számunkra is értékes. Miért? Azért, mert bennünket is arra buzdít, hogy kövessük Istent életünkben, keressük az Úr által számunkra kitűzött feladatokat akkor is, ha azok áldozattal járnak. Engedelmeskedjünk Istennek, próbáljuk meg életünket úgy élni, hogy ne egoistán, a vágyinkhoz igazítsuk hitünket, hanem Isten törvényéhez. A gyülekezetek közötti ellentétekben fedezzük fel a szenvedő Jézust. Ő az aki próbál mindnyájunkat jó útra téríteni, problémáinkon osztozni és az Atyánál érettünk közbenjárni.

Imádság

Mennyei Isten, áldj meg bennünket türelemmel, hogy elviseljük, megbírkózzunk nehézségeinkkel, amely megvilágítja előttünk az utat birodalmadba. Ámen.

What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. - 1 Corinthians 2:12

The servant of God, the apostle Paul brings two distinctive notion to our attention. Both can be considered as a gift, while their values cannot be measured the same way. One is the spirit of the world; the other is the Spirit of God.  They are both important to people, yet one is offering only a man-made image, a feeling that people can only be part of in a certain place and in a certain time. It is something that is limited and people reflect upon in relation to belong to one another. The spirit of the world in many cases divide people, while the Spirit of God unite us.

God’s Spirit has no boundaries, it is available to all always and anywhere. It is a force that existed before all and will always be with us regardless our understanding of it. While no human can ever fully understand the wisdom of God, with faith in Jesus Christ one can come closer to not only feel the Spirit of God, but also to utilize its empowering benefits. It is a doorway to heaven and also to live a righteous life, when we are surrounded by the spirit of the world.  Take up upon this free gift and find the peace of Jesus in your struggles, in your daily life.

Prayer

Holy God, empower us with your Spirit, so we can always do good and feel blessed by the love of Christ. Amen

Mi pedig nem a világ lelkét kaptuk, hanem az Istenből való lelket, hogy megismerjük mindazt, amit Isten ajándékozott nekünk. – 1 Korinthusi levél 2:12

Az Isten szolgálatában álló Pál apostol két érdekes fogalomról elmélkedik. Mindkettőre lehet ajándékként tekinteni, habár különböző értékeket képviselnek. Az egyik a világ lelke, a másik Isten Lelke. Az emberek számára mindkettő fontos, de míg az egyiket az ember formálta és többnyire időhöz és helyhez köt bennünket, igazából nem egy összetartó erő, hanem sok esetben taszító.

A világ lelke behatárolja az embert, de Isten Lelke határok nélküli, örök és mindenki számára mindig elérhető, illetve adott. Isten Lelke bölcs és jóságos, ami számunkra talán egy kirakós játék, amit életünk során igyekszünk összerakni és közben közelebb kerülni Istenhez. Isten Lelke számunkra a legjobban Jézus Krisztusban válik kézzelfoghatóvá, aki nem csak utat mutat Isten Lelkének befogadására, hanem védelmet biztosít és szabadulást a világ lelkének sötét erői ellen. Élj ezzel a szent ajándékkal és kövesd a Krisztust, aki tanít, gyógyít és örök életet kínál.

Imádság

Szent Isten, vértezz fel bennünket Szent Lelkeddel, hogy igaz életet élhessünk, áldottak lehessünk a Krisztus szeretete által. Ámen.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, (and we have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father), full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Arriving to the end of the season of Lent and to the passion of Jesus Christ, it is hard to not notice the humanness of God in the suffering of Christ. Take time during Holy Week to meditate and pray for the sacrifice of God’s only Son, who is the living God. He comes to be involved with the people of God by placing himself to the limitations of being a human.

There are several elements or signs how God shared our humanness. First of all, Jesus came and shared our struggles through the emotional structure of a person, such as anger, compassion, sorrow or loneliness. Secondly, he took on upon the bodily limitation of being human by being tired, sleepy, hungry, thirsty or exhausted from pain. Thirdly, Christ had a spiritual appetite and need to gradually feed the spirit. This process was complex with some important stops. One of them was his baptism, later facing, fighting and overcoming temptations, leading Jesus to his transfiguration. This spiritual journey was the most significant to his followers because Christ disciples could identify for real with God’s anointed one among themselves. The final element of Jesus’ humanity was his physical death.

Those who ask, what was the reason behind Christ being among the people in the flesh? The answer: it was God’s special approach of sharing himself with us and liberate us from sin and damnation.

What does this mean to me? That I am willing to suffer for God’s sake on this earth, develop my spiritual strength to join him right here, right now in His glory, to redeem me from my darkness.

Prayer

Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Change us to become a ray of light in the darkest valleys of our earthly struggles. Amen.

Az Ige testté lett, közöttünk lakott, (és láttuk az ő dicsőségét, mint az Atya egyszülöttjének dicsőségét), telve kegyelemmel és igazsággal.  János 1:14

Elérkeztünk a böjti időszak végéhez és a Nagyhéthez, Jézus Krisztus szenvedésének idejéhez. Szenteljünk figyelmet ebben az időben Isten áldozati bárányának méltóságára, ami egyben tükrözi az élő Istent, mint embert, aki nem utasítja vissza az emberi korlátozottsággal járó fájdalmakat, megpróbáltatásokat.

Jézus, aki része a Szentháromságnak, tehát maga az Isten, testet öltött és emberi tulajdonságokat vett magára. Ezeknek három fajtáját figyelhetjük meg élete különböző szakaszaiban. Elsőként az emberi érzelmeket, érzéseket, mint például a harag, bánat, együttérzés vagy magány. Másodszor, az emberi fizikum, amely befolyásolja cselekedeteinket, életünket. Például a fáradság, éhség, szomjúság, fájdalom (Jézus esetében fontos megemlíteni a halált is, hiszen, mint ember halt bele a testet érő traumába). A harmadik, ami lényeges része Jézus emberi mivoltának, az a lelkiség (a keresztség felvétele, harc a kísértéssel, megdicsőülés), ami által Jézus tanítványai tanui lettek Krisztus emberi mértékeket felülmúló hitével, tudásával és a hit által megnyílvánuló isteni hatalmával.

Összeségében, ha valaki azt kérdezi, hogy miért lett Isten emberré,  a válasz az, hogy Isten különleges módon megosztotta magát velünk, áldozatot hozott azért, hogy bűneinktől megszabadítson és örök életünk legyen.

Mit jelent ez számomra? Azt, hogy elviselem minden földi szenvedésem és lélekben növekszem, hogy az élő Istent már itt és most megtaláljam az Ő dicsőségében, hogy Ő engem megmentsen a gonosztól, és az örök haláltól.

Légy hozzám irgalmas Uram! Légy hozzám irgalmas Jézus! Változtass meg engem, hogy egy fénysugár lehessek az élet könyörtelen sötétségében a Te akaratod által. Ámen.

Remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins. – James 5:20

In this magical season of the Christian year, which we call lent, we turn to God for help. We ask the Lord to help us sinners to be cleansed and prepare us to have a new life in Christ. Important to note, that once we enter this spiritual realm of God, where we proclaim our helplessness to God, things change. We are filled with God’s peace and serenity when we give thanks for the gift of salvation through the blood of Christ. Then, we must recognize our purpose in this journey is to bring other sinners to God to repent their sins and to bear fruit, to get a second chance.

One of last week’s lectionary reading was from the gospel of Luke, chapter 13, where Jesus shares a parable with his followers about fig tree in a vineyard, that had no fruit to bear and the owner wanted to cut it down. The gardener asked for more time, another chance so he can give the tree more attention, more care to have the three bring fruit in the next season.

The lesson to take away from the parable is to recognize Jesus as the gardener of all of us, the owner is God the Father. We are fig trees that does not bring fruit and he is our gardener. When we are cared for, we must repent and take the extra step to be someone else’s gardener. Care for another person’s well-being, so that person can come to Jesus and bring new life in Christ to others.
Are you ready to repent and see your surroundings with the eye of God? Be the tree that Jesus is attending to and bear fruit by saving someone from damnation.

Prayer

Heavenly God, take away my sins and sent me forth to the destiny of being fruitful to your kingdom. Amen.

Testvéreim, ha valaki közöttetek eltévelyedik az igazságtól, és megtéríti valaki, tudja meg, hogy aki megtérített egy bűnöst a tévelygés útjáról, megmenti annak a lelkét a haláltól, és sok bűnt elfedez. – Jakab 5:19-20

A keresztyén naptári évnek ezt a varázslatos szakaszát a böjti időnek hívjuk, amikor Istenhez fordulunk segítségért. Az élet Ura előtt leborulunk és kérjük az Istent, hogy szabadítson meg bennünket bűneinktől azért, hogy új életet nyerjünk. Fontos azt tudni, hogy amikor a lelkünk láthatatlan, de erőteljes szignállal jelzi Isten felé az őszinte bűnbánatot a Jézus Krisztus áldozatáért hálát adva, akkor történik a megtisztulás. A krisztus békessége, józansága költözik belénk. Ekkor tudatossá kell váljon bennünk, hogy van egy küldetésünk, az, hogy gyümölcsöt teremjünk és hozzunk valakit a Krisztus keresztjéhez bűnbocsánatért.

A múlt heti egyházi olvasmányrend egyik Igéje Lukács evangéliumának a 13. részéből szólt hozzánk. Jézus Krisztus egy példázatot mondott el tanítványainak egy terméketlen fügefáról, amit a tulajdonosa kiakart vágattatni, de a gazda kért még egy kis időt, hogy táplálhassa, gondozhassa és megmentse a fát. Azt ígérte, hogy ha nagyobb gondoskodás után sem terem a fa gyümölcsöt, akkor teljesíti a tulajdonos kérését és kivágja a fát.

Számunkra az a tanulság ebből a példázatból, hogy mi magunk fügefák vagyunk az Isten kertjében, ahol Jézus Krisztus a gazda, aki közben jár értünk, aki áldozatos munkával és gondoskodással próbál bennünket gyümölcsöt termő fákká változtatni. Azért, hogy erre képesek legyünk, megkell tisztuljunk, majd gyümölcsöt kell teremjünk úgy, hogy mást is Krisztus elé hozunk, hogy termő gyümölcsfává válljék, ne pedig tüzifává.

Kész vagy-e igaz bűnbántra és arra, hogy életed Isten szemével lásd, amiből kiderül, hogy Istenhez tartozni az életet jelenti és nélküle élni a halált.

Imádság

Mennyei Isten, vedd el tőlem bűneimet, hogy tisztán lássam akaratod, hogy gyümölcsöt teremjek, termő fája lehessek birodalmadnak. Ámen.

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son with you I am well pleased.” Mark 1:9-10

In this first part of the new millennium, pastors or churches experience more funerals than births and baptisms. Of course, that is not true to so called mega churches or as I recently read, in suburban America, where Christianity and church life is on the rise. Regardless, the service and anticipation of Baptism for the clergy remains a serious business, it is a time of deep thinking, preparation, planning, meditating and praying to God. In a way it is partially a moment of total identification of who we are as Christians. It is also a transforming moment, which should be crucial to us all, including every member of the church.
Why do pastors and devoted Christians should think of it so?

The short answer because it is a sacrament, but in more detail, because we want to understand Jesus Christ, our Savior’s desire to be baptized. He did not baptize in the Jordan river to fulfill the law of God, but to fulfill the need of righteousness in the world of God. This cannot be done by humans, but only by God’s intervention.
In addition, we look forward to baptism to gain a new life with a new agenda of who we are, what we supposed to do in this current life and to leave our old self behind in order to shine and glorify the one, true God.

Prayer

Dear God, source of life and righteousness. Teach us to consciously follow you with every single breath that we take through the redeeming love of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Történt pedig azokban a napokban, hogy eljött Jézus a galileai Názáretből, és megkeresztelte őt János a Jordánban. És amikor jött ki a vízből, látta, hogy megnyílik a menny, és leszáll rá a Lélek, mint egy galamb; a mennyből pedig hang hallatszott: „Te vagy az én szeretett Fiam, benned gyönyörködöm.” Márk 1;9-11

Sajnos, sok egyházról elmondható manapság, hogy több a temetés a gyülekezet életében, mint a születés, illetve a keresztelés. Természetesen vannak kivételek is, mint például az óriás gyülekezetek, de manapság azt is lehet hallani, hogy Amerikában az egyházi élet a városoktól távol levő településeken is virágzik. Akár egyetért valaki a fent említettekkel vagy nem, az biztos, hogy a pap, vagy lelkész számára a keresztelés szolgálata komoly feladat, de lelket melengető öröm is. Minden adandó alkalommal a keresztelés szentsége mély elmélkedést, imádságot, felkészülést igényel, hiszen a keresztség által a megkereszteltnek éreznie kell az Istenhez  való tartozást, a megtisztulás és a megtérés áldását. Az embernek éreznie kell a Krisztus szeretete általi átalakulást, megtisztulást.

Miért különleges dolog ez a lelkész és a keresztyén ember számára?

Röviden, mert a keresztség jegye egy szent sákramentum. Bővebben, mert a keresztségben rejlik saját szándékunk megérteni Istent a Jézus Krisztusban, aki a megváltónk. Őt követjük és tudomásul vesszük, hogy Krisztus nem azért keresztelkedett meg a Jordán folyóban, hogy Isten törvényét érvényre jutassa, hanem azért, hogy örök igazságot szolgáltasson a világnak, hogy győzzön a sötétség erői felett. Erre csak Isten képes, az ember nem.
Mindehez társul az a tény, hogy a keresztség jegyében elfogadjuk az Isten által számunkra felkínált új életet egy új identitással és új célokkal, készen állva arra, hogy azt, ahogyan eddig éltünk magunk mögött tudjuk és Isten dicsőségének fényében tündökölhessünk, ha Őt követjük.

Imádság

Drága Isten, Te vagy az örök élet forrása. Taníts bennünket meg arra, hogy lelkiismeretesen tudjunk követni Téged és töltse ki életünk minden pillanatát a Krisztus önfeláldozó szeretete. Ámen.

    The Reverend Tamas Devecseri serves the Hungarian Reformed Church of Carteret since September of 2012. He was born in Gyongyos, Hungary, moved to the USA in 1991. He received his B.A. degree in Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, his Master of Divinity degree in the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, where he also received the Certificate of Fitness for Ministry as a student, in the care of the Reformed Church In America. He received the call to serve at the Hungarian Reformed Church of Carteret, where he was ordained and installed as a full time pastor.
