During our last bible study session we talked about the symbol of the rooster in Christianity. This small domestic bird can be seen on some churches’ steeples in America and on many across Europe. So what does the rooster represent for a church like ours and to us personally? Is it a compass like sign to help us navigate through town or as someone suggested in our bible study, a warning that there is liquor store around the church? The answer is none of the above. The rooster signifies the need for the people of the church to be alert, to wake up from their sleep. The rooster is a reminder to be vigilant in the presence of the Lord, it advises us to keep our vows to God and to his people. The rooster must reconnect us with the story of Peter, who promised to Jesus to never deceive him, yet claimed no relationship to Jesus three times during one night before the rooster’s voice broke the darkness of the night to find Peter weeping in shame for not keeping his promise. The rooster is the symbol of our conscious in the world, where almost everything seems to work against God. Look for the rooster on the top of the church, where ever you go. Be conscious and faithful to the Lord, when you are under the pressure because of countless temptation around you that tries to keep you a distance from Christ our Lord.
Remind me Almighty God that every single day in my life is not about me, but about you and your will. Guide my conscious and keep the crows of the rooster in my ears, so I can never stop serving you. Amen.
Ugyanígy beszélt a többi tanítvány is.
