Be the Salt - Legyél a só

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it lost its flavor?” – Matthew 5:13

Last week in our church there was a special event, where a couple confessed their love in the house of God and vowed to love and cherish each other in the name of the Lord and with God’s blessings. There was only a small group of people attending this special event, and even smaller number of people from the congregation, who showed interest to support their Christian brother and sister in this unique occasion. The Holy Spirit became the invisible advocate for the couple and for us participants in their marriage, as it was truly a blessed ceremony. On the other hand, without the support of more members of our church, one could have wonder if something was missing. That something was the seasoning, the flavor of the good will, compassion, interest of our fellow Christians from the church family. What good are we if we as followers of God lose our passion to love and cherish one another in the place, where we come to value God and his children? If we become too much of self-centeredness and ignorant in the close family that we have through our faith? The answer is we blend into the world’s worthlessness. Therefore, live and act constantly to affect others. Be a loving and respectful friend that encourages others to be better, the same way as seasoning brings out the best flavors even in the simplest food. Do the same; bring out the best from your fellow men and women as does Christ, our Lord.

Holy God, forgive us if we sometimes we fail to be the salt of earth. Remind us daily that we are being fed by your graciousness, which is not only nutritious but also flavorful and comforting. Amen.

„Ti vagytok a föld sója. Ha pedig a só megízetlenül, mivel lehetne ízét visszaadni? Semmire sem való már, csak arra, hogy kidobják, és eltapossák az emberek.” – Máté 5:13

Az elmúlt hétvégén egy különleges esemény volt templomunkban. Egy fiatal pár vallott örök hűséget egymásnak Isten színe előtt az Úr áldásával. Kevesen jöttek el az esküvőre, és ha a gyülekezetünk részvételét megvizsgáljuk, akkor egy szomorú képet kapunk arról, hogy mennyire nem érdekelt senkit, hogy két fiatal a templomunkat választotta ki ennek a szép szövetségnek a megkötésére. A Szentlélek láthatatlanul töltötte be a templomot, áldottá téve az esküvőt. Ugyanakkor elgondolkoztató volt, hogy a templomi gyülekezet hiányában mi volt az a valami, ami hiányzott. Talán az emberi törődés hiányzott a gyülekezet részéről, az  érdeklődés, a szándék ennek a párnak a befogadására a gyülekezet közösségébe.Hiányzott a keresztyéni szeretetet és szívélyesség a templomi családtól.Mire vagyunk jók mi keresztyének, ha elveszítjük szeretetünket, jóakaratunkat azok irányába, akik közeledni próbálnak felénk?Mit érünk mi, ha hitünknek elveszítjük az ízét, a sava borsát? A válasz az, hogy értéktelenné válunk az értéktelen, ízetlen vagy akár keserű  világban. Ezért élj úgy testvérem, hogy minden cselekedeteddel hatni tudj másokra. Légy a Jézus mintájára szeretője és tisztelője felebarátodnak és lelkesíts mindenkit arra, hogy jobb legyen. Úgy, ahogy a fűszerek, mint például a só megízesíti még a legegyszerűbb ételt is. Légy te is kész másokat jobbá tenni az Úr, a Krisztus szeretetével, ami benned van.

Szent Isten, bocsáss meg nekem és mindnyájunknak, ha sokszor elveszítjük az ízt, amivel mi is jobbá tehetjük a világot. Engedd, hogy naponta érezhessük irgalmad ízét, ami csodálatos és tápláló is. Ámen.
