As we are reaching the final stretch of our Lenten Bible Study, one thing is definite; the learning experience had an impact on all participants. God has touched us in many ways. Some of us changed their views about life and death. Others reached into a new depth of understanding the relationships of the four Gospels. However, above all, we experienced God’s holiness just as our bible describes it in Ephesians (1:4), “God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy”. The important word in this quotation is “chose” because we can all make choices and we can all decide if we want to experience God’s holiness or not, but we must know that without God’s desire, without God’s choosing to allow us to be saved, our choice to be holy is worthless. An isolated nation, ruled by a dictatorship may rise up and decide to be a democracy, yet it only can become one if they learn the principles of democratic freedom from nations who have a long, established experience of it, that they chose to share with them for nothing in return. We are the same way with God. We can make our choice to be holy, but it is only possible through Jesus Christ who alone can make us blameless in the sight of God.
